You have a chance to get Rick`rolled by a genius in Australia. This guy claims that iPhone that is jailbroken is not secure and is subjected to unauthorised attacks. And he created this worm to prove his point. Initially, it infects phones in his region (Australia). But just a few hours ago, a friend of mine had her iPhone infected with such a virus. And she was just paranoid. But I couldnt quickly deduce why that happened.
Some iPhones that are jailbroken belong to people who do not completely understand the implications of jailbreaking. Because essentially, jailbreaking your phone means authorising it to be modified.
Consider this analogy. Apple builds the iPhone operating system as Lalaland, where everything is safe and secure. It is like a closed operating system (OS), extremely resistant to worms or virus attacks, due to the security nature of the code that it is being built on. One day, a hole was discovered in the OS. Apple, to the rescue, quickly released a patch to fix it. But during the window period, some intelligent iPhone users decided to exploit the hole and create a custom OS, hence jailbreak.
So when you jailbreak your iPhone, the OS steps out of Apple's ring of protection and into an unsecured world. Unless more security features are installed, your iPhone is as good as a dummy target for beginner hackers to hack into your phone.
The security features that must be installed immediately after jailbreaking are changing the root password of your phone and installing the pdf security flaw patch (available via Cydia or Apple OS 4.0.2 update)
By default, all jailbroken devices have default root passwords. That means all jailbroken iPhones are liable to being hacked by a hacker's chopper unless the default password is changed to a strong password.
So some people who jailbreak their phones and do not know what all these is about will one day be lucky enough to have their iPhones injected with this worm. And removing it is quite simple actually, but the level of difficulty is inversely proportional to your level of savvyness.
A few weeks ago, it was possible to jailbreak your iPhone just by visiting a website. Because someone discovered a pdf exploit to propogate a jailbreak through it but Apple swiftly responded by releasing 4.0.2 to patch it up. Clever iPhone users can get the pdf fix on Cydia. Businessmen and businesswomen who plainly use their iPhones to boast their image and for emailing and contacting contacts just update their iPhones anyway.
So if you plan to jailbreak your iPhone, do take precaution before jumping into modifying your iPhone to a great extent. Otherwise, a worm will modify it for you. And you have no choice but to pull the worm out of your phone. (Unless you just love being Rick`rolled!)

well i thought of writing a commentary on the Apple iPhone 3GS because i would like to share these information to people out there about how wonderful and how not-so-wonderful the iPhone 3GS is, regardless of whether they own one or not. If you do own an iPhone, i believe you would like to know about something you have not known before. but if you do not have one, just enjoy reading. cheers!
The Apple iPhone has revolutionized the mobile world. When it was first introduced, the market response towards it was overwhelming. It was just incredible to see the surge of the number of iPhones you could see around. walk into the mrt train and there is a high chance of seeing a commuter leaning against the glass panel, engrossed in his iPhone. truly the iPhone has many capabilities, as Apple claims. not only can you call, sms and surf the net, you can play games on it and make use of gps to find your way around Singapore.
my iPhone 3GS is the 16GB model. back then, i clearly remember the price of the phone itself to be approximately SGD 1000. after using the phone for a month, i started to get bored with the phone.
You can play many games on the iPhone but you got to BUY them.
this sucks. that was the first thought that came to my mind when i saw the price tag attached to the game that i wanted in the app store. no credit card means no games. so i went to check out the free games available. i depended on the "TOP FREE" page to get the fun games. BUT the games over the TOP PAID and TOP GROSSING are even better!
I have always been eyeing the game "ANGRY BIRDS" because after playing the lite (aka DEMO) version, i think its a really good game and 0.99 USD is worth it. but i do not have a crappy credit card account.
so one fine day, i decided to ask my mother for her credit card as i said that i wanted to buy some software thing for my iphone. she reluctantly agreed. hehehe so i went to buy the angry birds app. woot!
and on the TOP PAID page, i saw this really cool game:
AWESOME!!! i love street figther 4 PC for its really cool graphics and game play. immediately i just tapped the BUY NOW without hesitation. i just couldnt resist the temptation!! HAHAHAHAHS.
to my dismay, the graphics were not that impressive but i grew to love it because of its multiplayer function. hehe
but soon after, my mum questioned me about the 18+ dollar reflected in her account statement. by that time, i already knew about how to get every single app possible, for free of charge without using a crappy credit card account anymore so i just assured her that i wont buy anything anymore and its going to be the last time. phew, luckily she dropped the issue.
Now im going to discuss about jailbreaking the iPhone. i dont like the term 'jailbreak'. it has a negative connotation to it because jail talks about prisoners and criminals who have done something really bad. and worse still, breaking out of jail is not legally good right? so i would rather call it, UNLOCKING the 3GS iPhone.
apple does not let you do stuff that the iPhone can do. i think there are a few reasons.
1. they think that the iPhone cannot handle the multi-tasking of many apps due to its weak battery.
2. they want to prevent piracy of apps so that their app store can earn lots of money
3. they just dont let you do it. just like flash player. lol
that sounds plainly crappy to me. hey the phone was bought with a huge price tag and you dont let me do what i want to do with it? hahas okay thanks for creating such a wonderful phone with rich capabilities and wonderful interface. but i dont care about your policies and terms and agreements for using the iPhone. i am going to modify it. fullstop.
well the warranty lasts for only 1 year. what is going to happen after that?
1. iPhone self-destructs.
2. a new iPhone 5,6,7,8,9,.... emerges.
after reading about the features of jailbreaking, i discovered that you can actually restore your device to its latest version via iTunes but it erases all data in it. however for the price of that you get a brand new fresh iPhone software. COOL!
(later i am going to discuss how i managed to solve a broken iPhone)
but some people claim that your phone is going to get bricked and self-destruct. the definition of a bricked iphone is an iphone that becomes unusable due to misuse. so you screw around with the jailbreak apps and your phone K-O. i second that. this is true because i have experienced it before. not once nor twice. but thrice to date.
This is an example of a bricked iPhone. the screen just gets stuck on this stupid apple logo and this is more or less the end of the it. either you see the apple logo or you see a blank screen.
basically it happened right after the installation/uninstallation of some jailbreak apps on Cydia. Cydia is the special app store that is catered to jailbroken iphones.
the most recent one that i remembered clearly was the uninstallation of MyWi, a special app that enables the iPhone to share its 3G connection over wifi. so you can use ur laptop to connect to your phone's internet connection! i.e. a wifi hotspot. Apple gets totally pissed about this kind of apps.
a major example is the fact that apple did not design ipad to be able to tether iphone's 3g connection.
however, i managed to restore the device to its factory state with the help of google and my PC and my iphone was revived with a 'defibrillator" aka iTunes.
so there are pros and cons for jailbreaking.
one of the best benefit for jailbreaking is modifying the theme of your iphone.
one of the most irritating issue is that when you are gaming and a message comes from someone and you really want to read it, Pressing VIEW will close the game and send you straight to your message. *thumbs down*
so theres this really awesome app called iRealSMS 3.0 and the message just comes right up without inteferring with your games. and you can reply on the spot. but also choose to view it in the messaging app and thus close the game. you can also instantly call the person with a touch of your finger.
Lets see
case 1:
You locked your phone. suddenly someone smses you. you can reply without even unlocking your phone.
Case 2:
You suddenly thought of something and you want to message someone. But you are in the middle of a really exciting mahjong game. you can just simply send a message without closing the game. (for some games, it is a good idea to pause it for a while if you dont want to lose).
case 3:
you are in the middle of a really exciting mahjong game and someone messages you. pretty important message. tata! it just shows up like this. either close it or view it or reply or call. to reply, just tap the the dark blue area.
these are some of the three awesome features of iRealSMS 3.0
Look at my clock.
two things i want to highlight here.
1. I can add seconds to the clock on the lockscreen. good for counting down to the school bell.
2. android lockscreen. to unlock, i have to draw a pattern. furthermore, i can hide the dots so that they are invisible. hehe
or maybe this (my own phone's theme now)
HEY YOU TOOK THAT FROM A HTC PHONE?
i afraid you are wrong. this is a screenshot directly from my iphone. and take a look at my keyboard. no more boring stale silverish apple keyboard. now with really cool and versatile keyboard with lesser typos and bigger icons! woot.
these are some of the features that discriminates an average iPhone and a TRUE (unlocked) iPhone.
to find out more about theme modding, check out www.modmyi.com or google "iphone winterboard".
And the best of all is the true multi-tasking capability.
one of the really bad bad bad consequence of using the iphone, regardless of whether you jailbreak or not, is its thermal properties. when using it at high intensity, it gets really hot. touch your forehead with ur palm. it can get up to 3 times as hot as your head ( assuming that you are a healthy being with no fever )!
From apple's website, http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
we know that the battery will be damaged under high heat and it degrades over prolonged strong heating.
the fact is, its inevitable. as you use the iphone, electrical energy stored in the battery is partially converted into thermal energy which results in the heating of the iphone. therefore, after playing a game for one hour or so, i will totally stop using it and put it aside in a cool dry place with its cover removed. the phone has its black casing which acts as a heat sink for the phone to cool itself down. the holes where you plug in headphones and the pin connector ventilate the iphone. air inside expands under heat and it might damage the interior parts.
so its best to put it in an air-conditioned place to keep it as cool as possible. nevertheless, its short battery threshold forces me to charge the phone at least once a day. sometimes even up to three times (if i play games in school hehe)
the jailbreak experience has never failed me. each time my phone was bricked, i deem it as a blessing in disguise because the event of restoring the phone gets rid of any unwanted apps or apps that i do not actually need but takes up disk space. so after restoring, the essential apps and stuff that i really want and need would come to my mind and i would re-build my iphone from scratch. therefore, each time, my iphone just gets better and better.
do note that unlocking or jailbreaking your phone truly opens your phone to its true capabilities. the ones that i highlighted are not just the only ones. there certainly are more and i am still exploring.
well thats just a little bit of what i want to actually share. i will continue in the next post! do share what you think in the comments or suggest what i could comment on. Cheers!

Boy i almost thought i have lost track of my blog. This shall be an insightful post.
Many times i regretted speaking out my ideas instead of holding my peace. I like to Be normal. Just me. But i cant just allow the innate behavior in me to control my speech. I got a brain to think. Maybe sometimes i did not think about the implications that my speech would bring thoroughly, resulting in undesirable consequences like discrimination. Thats the topic that im learning in general paper now.
Today i learnt that discrimination is not always explicit. It can be implicit as well, especially in speeches and actions that appear to be normal. For an example, the people that one socialises with, is actually discriminating those whom he could but wouldnt want to do so. Would you want to talk to someone that looks like a freak and walks like a chimpanzee? Certainly not. I donT want to be a victim as well.
So maybe i should try being quiet for awhile to observe how others could talk and still attract people to themselves. There is much to learn. And it takes a persevering mindset that refuses to give in to resistance to keep on learning.
Im so sorry if i have ever said something that was nasty to you. Now learning from the mistakes, i believe there is always hope. And i believe in individual therapy but i do not rely on it entirely. Please teach me when possible from time to time. If i can just receive one tip from every friend that i have, altogether they will mean a big improvement to me.
Ip man is a nice movie. Such a noble and humble dude that remains patriotic and benevolent. At one scene, he felt useless in such a complicated world though he had learnt martial arts. Now i know that sometimes even the great people of this world feel the same way i do. Hence, what am i good in? God knows.
Im looking forward to watch ip man 2 when im free. Tmr going to play real mahjong at friends house and i will be ready for school assessments and canoeing time trials when they come!

Today is one of the awesome days of the year man. actually i thought today would be a shitty day because i had a bad morning. i had to wake up at 5am so i could reach mac ritchie reservoir by 7am. Otherwise the bus would leave me behind...
it was a rude awakening when the alarm clock screamed at me to get up. but thankfully i managed to reach the bus in the nick of time. hehe
previously those people who went for the YOG help out event told me that they got to drive a boat and there's free flow of coke. it was incredible. yoy've got to be kidding me! i didnt believe it until i experienced it today.
i once rode on a Navy diving unit boat before during a course in NCC. and i told myself that when i have lots of money im going to get the bloody license and the boat and drive around like there's no tomorrow. its dam shiok going at full speed.
unfortunately, im suppose to be a boat rescue man which means i shouldnt be creating unnecessary waves for those racing. so we could only travel at minimum speed. zzz
afterwards we were given the job to fish some rubbish from the really dirty basin. dam i caught strange stuff like a fresh orange and a dead fish in a plastic packet. and lots of plastic bottles and twigs and leaves. !!!
oh and of course i met this girl called Bernadette. first time hearing such a name. whom i learnt the controls of the boat from. and got some good friendly company throughout the day besides having tons of coke. dam man its feels good to grip the trottle and push it forward! thats some real burst acceleration~~
although it was pretty sunny all afternoon, occasionally there were large passing clouds that gave us shelter from the hot sun.
and finally ended the day by clearing up the mess and keeping the stuff and of course, bringing home coke bottles in my bag. hehe yippee i brought a nearly empty bag.
i actually wanted to snap a pic on board. but thank God i didnt bring my phone in the pocket. i slipped and fell in to the water while trying to pull the boat close to the floating platform with the rope. this is because my worn-out sandals do not have any more grip! if my iphone still in there, its instant gg.
looking forward to the actual yog event after common tests.

Just a quick little update to revive my blog
Well General Paper is really a pain the the neck and its really hard to score in it. You REALLY got to argue for your marks. Cant argue? Sorry no marks. Boo!
And economics isnt that easy. Man I guess it isnt that easy to port my A1 O' geog to A' econs. everything is purely essays! tthats why im in this essay writing mania school called SA(Essay) JC
and i think the school should rename canoeing cca as flatwater racing. or somewhere along the line. because canoeing doesnt include flatwater kayak racing, which requires paddling on both sides, whereas canoeing is traditionally paddling on one side only.
and I aspire to be like Adam Van Koeverden. holy moly look at this cool video of him whacking and owning
the arms are doing work against water resistance at an incredible speed. i could barely catch up with that speed if i paddle in air. every single quality stroke adds up to winning the race victoriously. and they can kick the boat and yet feel so stable. VISUALIZE.....
i capped in the k1 boat when i wanted to adjust my sunglasses. haix. these dudes could do all sorts of stuff in the boat without capping. time to put on my thinking cap and put my body in the boat and master the balancing!!!
have you ever felt your heart leap when you see something really exciting? i saw a new vision just recently and i understood that the feeling was like. its like your heart feelings just takes control over your brain that feels numb and you could feel your feet lifting off the ground.
sweet.

It was quite a tough decision deciding between the National Public Speaking competition and Canoeing trainings.
Apparantly the NPSC seems to be more worthy than canoeing trainings because Mr Moses said that I am one of the better ones among the 5 and needless to say, he wants SAJC to win the award.
But there's no going back on my commitment towards canoeing. Three canoeing trainings costs me too much already, let alone missing one training. Among the team, coach strongly emphasises on competing who is the fittest of all. Not just physical strength, but the medical condition of the body. Because missing a training due to medical reasons will cause one to lose out in terms of skills and techniques that are covered in the training. The much precious time spent on water will cause one to be more familiar with the characteristics of rowing in the water and thus improve one's skills and techniques indirectly.
Assuming that I do not fall sick for these three weeks, how can I afford to miss three canoeing trainings? I can't. Especially if the coach goes through very important lessons during training.
Even if it turns out to be a rather unusual training like on previous Saturday, when all of us are sent back home for some of us came late, it is a lesson worth attending, and learning.
I really hope I could represent the school in this NPSC. I am quite disappointed to disappoint Mr Moses for agreeing to join because I could not make it for the NPSC appointment.
"...Then I shall take your name out." a few minutes ago
But I trust that there are students in the school who are more suitable to take this place. They are probably even better than me. What is the point of sending a good student to a competition when his heart is not in it? It is even better to send one who is totally committed to it.
People say that Time prevents everything from happening simultaneously. But there are exceptions. Like my case.
On the brighter side, I am looking forward to the Public English Speaking Award in SAJC. I think it is some sort of internal competition among J1 students, if I am not wrong. Since my GP tutor gave little details about it, I think it should be a small scale competition.
I certainly hope it does not clash with my canoeing trainings.
At the end of the day, it's the amount of effort that I put into trainings. I want the maximum number of trainings and opportunities for me to train. So that I can apply my maximum effort too.
Expectations is the atmosphere for miracles to happen. Within 365 days from now, many miracles will happen. On the 366th day, it will be another big one.
Today I went to service with Julia and Weize. Pastor Kong preached a sermon that is especially targeted at those who responded to the altar call a few weeks ago, including Easter week, for them to receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit. I pray and hope that she would be very much familiar with the Holy Spirit soon!
And after service, I served at dialect church. The pastor preached about Pastor Kong's God in Ancient China series. It is about how chinese characters could be derived from bible verses. Interesting! Picked up some hokkien phrases too!
It's beautiful to see how the elderly worship God. Though the physical body is frail and weak, the soul is still the same like all of us. Even the ah pek and ah ma would lift their arms in worship. Just as there are various kinds of kids and adults, so are there different kinds of old people. Got the cheerful kind, grumpy kind, the over-friendly kind, the noisy kind.. etc. The soul never grows old. The desire for happiness burns on forever.
Done my PI for PW.

One of the worst tutorials in JC is a 1 and a half hour chinese tutorial in the hot sultry afternoon. u can just feel the radiation of the heat in the dry classroom.
well at least yesterday's day didnt end with that horrible tutorial. i went for the Life concert that night and it was awesome. the setup reminded me of a service in City Harvest JW building. there's smoke and mist in the air and bright shining lights that stab throug hthe darkness. and some of the songs they sang were familiar. has some distinct Hillsong and CCC influence!
And this weekend Im going for 1-Star Kayaking Course! I always thought of going for it when I was still in the old NCC days. The badge for the uniform looks really cool. A silver frame with a single star in the middle. two star and three star look even more cool!
And this week, I found out from my economics tutor, that she was a businesswoman before but she sold it and now she's retiring already. (probably teaching in schools because she doesnt wanna get bored!). She mentioned that she started at her early twenties and sold her business after 10+ years.
THAT MEANS SHE'S IN HER MID OR LATE THIRTIES AND RETIRING ALREADY???

A few days ago, my iPhone got PWNED by a heavy rain. It was the National Junior Canoeing Championships day and I was helping my school team carry boats and equipment. And I left my bag in the open. It was such a hot sunny day. But the weather suddenly turned around and ominous dark clouds overcast the sky. Then it started raining CATS and DOGS.
We were frantically trying to bring all the boats back on shore as soon as possible. Nobody brought my bag back into the shelter...
I took out my iPhone to check its condition. It's quite wet. There's a big droplet of water in the hole where you plug in the charger. Everything works fine except the loudspeaker. No volume available???!
For the next few hours I placed my iPhone in a bag of rice, hoping that it will absorb as much moisture as possible. When I took it out to check it again, the backlight failed. It appears that the brightness of the screen is even darker than its minimum settings. You can't see anything unless you tilt it at an angle for light to reflect on it.
I brought the phone to Singtel, and was prepared to pay the $200 bucks for a swap. But to my amazement, my phone passed the warranty test. I felt a little nervous when the lady checked the two holes with a flashlight. She calmly processed my request over to a counter and gave me a queue number.
It was a few minutes later when I heard the bell to signal the next queue number. It's mine!
A nice malay lady greeted me and I handed my iphone to her. She's got a rookie standing beside her and she's training him on the spot.
"You see the white spot there?"
"err... huh?"
"Ok, see below the wire. The white spot!"
"YA! I see it!"
"Thats right. If it turns red or pink, means got water or corrosion damage."
"mmmhmmm!"
Is it red or white???????!
After what seemed like eternity, she said," Ok see ar, here. For iphone 3gs 16gb.... this number."
Then she turned around and opened the cabinet behind her and took out a brown box. LOOOOOOOOL!!!
She then handed me three sheets of paper to sign. After that, it's done! New iPhone! LOL the backlight fault is highlighted in the paper
Picture (viewable on blog only):
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA how it was damaged remains a mystery... Or Maybe the rice bag turned the red spot white? LOL
When I checked the version of the iPhone, I LOLED
HAHAHAHAH now I really PWNED my iPhone for real! 24kpwn
Picture of iPhone pwned:
Last time, I wanted to buy a laptop for school because I want quick access to information, especially on the internet. But for now, the iPhone is sufficient. hahahhas! Games and entertainment are easily settled on the iPhone too!
I like this video:
Its got cool funny sounds and the storyline behind why the birds are angry is intriguing! the game isnt easy to beat!!
Pigs got tired of eating grass and they wanted to eat fried bird eggs. but the birds are very protective of them, to such an extent that they would crush a mosquito to death for landing on one of the eggs. The pigs then stole the eggs while they were busy killing the mosquito but they were discovered while cooking them. But I couldnt explain the nuclear explosion at the end... lol
Yesterday was canoeing selection test. It was a wet weather. The sky wept as long as the whole day. Visibility was poor and everyone was feeling cold. But the test still goes on. We have to adapt!
So we went for a warmup run to keep ourselves warm and active. We had our warmup paddling from the shore to the starting line. It was really very cold. And the speed boat was still zipping up and down at the other side of the reservoir, creating big unpleasant waves that makes you want to crap in your pants. Everyone managed to reach the starting line without capsizing. We were ready.
Coach yelled, "READY GO!" (theres a 0.1 second delay between READY and GO!)
and we charged down the lane. As I was paddling, the paddling tips that I acquired through the past few trainings came to my mind. The people I do not want to disappoint came to my mind; the people that I want to impress came to my mind as well.
It was tiring. I tried to catch up with those who were a boat's length in front of me but to no avail. At the last 250 metres mark, I felt like slowing down, but that would cost me too much. After crossing the finishing line, my body was steaming like mad. It was so cold but I felt so warm. The hotness and coldness blended soothingly as I learnt that I passed the test.
MONDAY. Get back tests results and the real project work (PW) topic coming right up. AND chiong academics!!
Up and On. Onward and Upward.

Being the class representative is a fun job! My PW group is made up of decent people. Thankfully... We all want to get our A in PW so we gotta behave like an A grade student. Charmaine is so nice today to distribute homemade cookies for the class's support for her student councillor election.
My chinese teacher is yet another naggy mother hen and tutorials of MT are 1hour30mins omg...
Today's chemistry lesson was tough to understand. Still used to writing 2.8.8. to show electrons of an atom. cant write this anymore. but got new stuff to learn. and as usual, it always doesnt make much sense in the beginning of learning chemistry until you learn further chapters.
economics so far so good. very logic-based and interesting. basically its just a posh way to put common-sense stuff across.
MSA IS COMING SOOON. so gotta hit the notes and put it into my head.
gotta keep training hard. harder. im putting in my best effort to stay in the canoeing team. up and on!
facebook upload pic isnt working well for me. got error while installing the new uploader -.- zzz
Recently had a family feast at chinese restaurant again. DELICIOUS. right after saturday's canoeing training i chiong straight to the restaurant. omg wooohooo.
just by looking at the photos i could recall how delicious the food tastes.

HURRRRRRRAY
I think I have found the CCA that I want to grow with in my two years of JC.
Seriously, my arms haven't recovered from the aching since the first training. But getting better.
Canoeing is a fun water sport. The coach is yet another 40 years old uncle that has big bulging arms, and talks like an army officer. well yet another simple reason why i want to join, is to prepare myself for NS. HEY! thats the same reason why I joined NCC(Land) in Secondary school!! LOL
SAJC canoeing team is new in the canoeing since but has been doing exceedingly better than expected that probably shocked other school teams. I like to grow together with this CCA so I give two years of my life to it. Or maybe more.
HAPPY CNY!
dam this year didnt get to eat bakwa.. only pineapple stuff. but its really fatttty. im going protein. hehe
h2 chemistry and physics. now i know why teachers are known as tutors in JC. because i really seriously need some 1 on 1 tutoring.
+_+
When i have my hands on a guitar, i like to play guai lan songs and tunes to deesiao people and do funny stuff. for entertainment purposes of course. not to pick a fight. but it sounds likewise!
This guy is one of my guitar teachers. i learn from him. hehe
he can play at godly speeds. uncle uncle still so energetic. omg
my grandmother has a chowchow in her house. friendly. but dont look exactly friendly because of the resemblance to a bear and a thick mane. (looks like permed hair)
haahahahs. tomorrow OG3 outing again. hope more people can come next time after CNY!
